College is a big step in most people’s lives. It is the beginning of adulthood. You move away from your parents. You’re on your own for the first time. You are totally dependent on no one but yourself. You get to make all your own decisions. It is your very first taste of freedom. The core idea of going to college should be knowledge. It is a place to learn, to question, to hear new ideas, to think for yourself. It is a cornucopia of knowledge all at your finger tips. Learned professors telling you to rethink all you know. Vast libraries open for you to explore. Discussion groups for you to share your ideas and learn new ones from others. All of this to broaden your horizons on thought to get you ready to go out into the world and better and more knowledgeable person. But for most of us it’s just a four year recess before we have to enter the real world. All night keggers, experimenting sexually, hazing freshman, and enough booze to kill a lot of brain cells. If people even do begrudgingly go to classes it’s to nurse a hangover. Can you really understand “Advanced Quantum Mechanics 401” after a night of Jaeger bombs with your frat bros? College may leave you wanting in certain areas after you leave. So for this week’s “Hashtag, You’re It” I asked you guys to tell me some classes in college that you think might have been more useful then “The Early Works Of Charlotte Bronte” with the hashtag #RealisticCollegeClasses. We trended in Canada with this one! So check out the top list below and don’t forget to join me every Tuesday at 11 am EDT for the next “Hashtag, You’re It”
