So the other day I was doing a little deep cleaning when I stumbled onto an old shoe box. I opened it up and it was full of photos from my childhood up to the high school years. I started look at a few. Then a few more. Then before I knew it i was sitting down on the floor going thru every old photo I had. I fell down a rabbit hole of nostalgia that really but the cleaning of my apartment on hold for a few hours. But it’s hard not to. Whenever you look at a photo it’s a snapshot of one exact moment in your life. Looking at it brings all those memories flooding back to you. You can remember the smells, the sounds, the clothes, and every other sense memory that you can. It becomes a window to see the past. Some good memories, some bad but all a part of us. We ARE our past. That’s why we cherish photos so much. It’s a glimpse of a time past that shows us where we came from. A time that we’d like to capture forever. Sadly we can’t and a photo is the only proof that it indeed happen. One particular picture from my childhood grabbed me though. It was a picture of me in my Smurf pajamas playing with some toys. I was maybe 5 or 6 at the time and it’s the toys that really struck me from the old photo. I was playing with all my He-Man figures and the play set of Castle Greyskull. There are 2 reasons that this photo stays with me. The first being that He-Man (and all the other 80’s cartoons) played such a big part of my childhood. The other being was that when I was a preteen I sold all those He-man figures, vehicles, and play sets for $5 in a garage sale. If I had only kept them they’d be worth SO MUCH MORE TODAY!!! Oh well, hind sight is 20/20. But looking at that old picture made me smile AND it brought me to this week’s “Hashtag, You’re It’. Remembering all of those TV branded toys, comfy pajamas, and a time before I had to pay any bills got me feeling all nostalgic. That’s why this week’s tag was #IFondlyRemember. It trended after only 10 minutes and stayed trending in the U.S. for over 6 hours! So grab an old photo album of your own, a big box of kleenex, and check out this week’s top list. Don’t forget to join me next week at 11 am EDT for the next exciting episode of “Hashtag, you’re It”
