#WhatActuallyMakesMeLOL via Hashtag, You’re It!: @McMannofthePeop The Top Picks

Common courtesy has really gone out the window recently. People have stopped holding the door for others. No one tries to help that little old lady cross the street. Men have stopped tipping their hats when greeting someone. Hell, most people don’t even know how to make eye contact. But there is one form of basic courtesy that still remains in this day and age and that happens to be on your phone. A friend texts you a joke, or a funny cat video, or a meme about winter sucking and even if you don’t find it funny we all send back the same reply. It’s quick text shorthand and it let’s the original sender know that you got it, saw it, and thought it was funny (most of the time it isn’t). It’s really giving the barest minimum but it’s still polite to send it in response. That response is LOL. This term has been around since the early 80’s and is now even in the Oxford English Dictionary! I know that 98% of you will know the definition but i’m still going to give it to you. LOL stand for Laugh Out Loud. It’s meant to give the original sender your reaction to the item that they sent you. But as most of us know……..it’s a lie. Of the hundreds of thousands of times that you have texted LOL in your lifetime I bet only a small fraction of them have you actually, in REAL life laughed out loud. Most of the time whatever it is that was sent to you gets a quick exhale of air from your nose. So i guess that acronym should be QEOAFYN. But that’s WAY to long in our lazy and fast paced lifestyle. That’s why LOL is so popular. It’s short, the keys are right next to each other, and it’s a quickest form of courtesy we can give. But laughing out loud is something that we rarely do. As sad as that seems. Think about your day yesterday. How many times did you actually Laugh Out Loud? one? Maybe two? Laughter is a great release and we all should do it more often. Now more than ever we need happiness in our lives. So let’s take the time to remember all those things that do indeed make us LOL.
