#HowMyBodyTellsMeImOld via Hashtag, You’re It!: @McMannofthePeop The Top Picks

So, you’ve just bought a brand spanking new car. You just signed the last of the paper work, shook the car dealers hand, and turned the ignition to hear your new baby purr. You put it in drive, wave goodbye, and drive it off the lot. BANG! You’ve just lost 11% of that car’s value just from the simple act of driving it off the lot due to depreciation. But you don’t care, you and this car will be with each other for a long time. But let’s fast forward a couple of years. Now I’m sure you’re getting all the regular check ups and recommended oil changes but still things go wrong. Maybe a flat tire late at night. Or the muffler is making a funny sound. Or the brakes are a little mushy. But you don’t care. Dealing with stuff like that is all part of owning a car. So you shell out the money to make it run like new again. Now fast forward a few more years. The car won’t turn over in the morning. It’s leaking oil at an alarming rate. The engine sounds like it’s going to explode when you go over 60 mph. At this point there isn’t even an original part left in the motor. The car is on it’s last leg. It’s old. And it’s been letting you know it’s old for a long time now. The check engine light has been on for the last 3 years. Clouds of black smoke billow out of the tail pipe when you give it the gas. It shudders when you’re just idling at a stoplight. Buzzards are circling over head. Ok, Ok, Ok, maybe not that last one but you get to gist. There are ways that your car lets you know it’s getting old. The same goes for your body. Now I’m using the car analogy here because just like when a car breaks down, when your body does, it will cost you a LOT of money to get it fixed. All the parallels are there as well. Both can have parts replaced, both go in for regular check ups, both leak fluid at inopportune times, and both are really dangerous to be on the road when really old. But where you can tell right away there might be a problem with a car our bodies are a little bit more subtle with those changes. That brings us to the week’s “Hashtag, You’re It” which was #HowMyBodyTellsMeImOld. There were over 2,300 responses this week so I’m guessing we are all starting to feel the ravages of time on our bodies.
