#InTheMorningIJustWant via Hashtag, You’re It!: @McMannofthePeop The Top Picks

With the advent of the industrial revolution leading many to flock to cities for work came a new issue that sprang up about how to get up in the morning. Most of us take it for granted because we’ve always had this device around when we needed it. We even have an app on our phones to do it. I’m speaking of the alarm clock. We barely even think of this device even though most of us use it on a daily basis to get us to work on time. But think back to the days during the start of the industrial revolution. Alarm clocks, still in their infancy at this point, where not very reliable. Plus even regular clocks were something that only the rich could even afford, let alone own. So what were the normal working men to do to get themselves up in the morning to get himself to the factory on time? In steps in a new profession. The Knocker-Upper. And no, it’s not someone that goes door to door knocking up your daughters. A Knocker-Upper was a person that would go door to door knocking on doors with a baton, or in cases where people lived on the 2nd floor a long bamboo rod to knock on windows, and make sure the people woke up. It was, in essence, a human alarm clock. This profession even lasted into the early part of the 20th century. There was even a famous Knocker-Upper named Mary Smith who used a pea-shooter to wake people up. Learning about these facts got me to think about how I need a real person to get my lazy ass out of bed every morning. Sometimes I would just need a gentle nudge while other days I’d probably need a bucket of ice water dumped on me. Also in the morning I need my coffee. Hot. Black. FULL of caffeine. OOOO, also I want waffles. With a big side of bacon. But mostly in the morning I just want 5 more minutes of sleep. Well all this wish list of morning things lead me to this week’s “Hashtag, You’re It” which was #InTheMorningIJustWant. Well looking over your answers I can tell that most of you feel that way I do.
