#TrulyScaryBedtimeStories via Hashtag, You’re It!: @McMannofthePeop The Top Picks

Reading a bedtime story to a child has many benefits. The routine of a nightly bedtime story is comforting to a child. Hearing the story helps with their language and cognitive skills. It strengthens the bond between the child and the reader. It imparts empathy and helps the child learn morality in a way that they can understand. But the most important thing that reading a bedtime story to a child does is it PUTS THE KID TO SLEEP!!!! Finally the little brat can be down for the night and you can actually have a few minutes of peace and quiet before you fall limp and exhausted onto your own bed. But what if it doesn’t work? What if the kid never goes to sleep! What if the story just re-energize them and they have twice the motivation to get up and run around like the little hell spawn that they are. Scary story right! But don’t worry. It’s just that, a story. As most of you know the original Grimms Brother’s fairy tales are beyond dark and feature many cruel and violent acts in them. If we read those to our kids they’d have nightmares for days. Like in the original “Cinderella” the evil step sisters actually cut off parts of their foot to fit into the shoe and it almost works until the prince sees the shoe filling up with blood. Or in the original “Frog Prince” story the spell is finally broken when the girl takes the frog prince and throws him as hard as she can against a wall. Not your normal sweet dreams fidder huh. So what about you? What would keep you up late into the night? War, famine, poverty, spiders, your mother-in-law? What sends shivers down your spine? That’s why for this week’s “Hashtag, you’re It” I asked for #TrulyScaryBedtimeStories. I mean if Stephen King can makes millions doing it why can’t we!
