#WhenImLivingInANursingHome via Hashtag, You’re It!: @McMannofthePeop The Top Picks

Nursing homes have always had a bad reputation. I mean Hell, they were originally called Poorhouses when Europeans first introduced the concept the the Americas in the 17th century. It really wasn’t until the end of the Great Depression that the name changed at all to Convalescent Homes and then to the modern Nursing Homes. During the 70’s and 80’s there was a rash of news reports about the horrible conditions of a lot of nursing homes. Followed by many news laws put into place to help make care for the elderly much better. But really the stain on nursing homes has stuck with us. Most people think of it as a place to dump your elderly parents. A one light bulb light room where an abusive nurse will steal from them and then push them around. Sitting in a wheelchair, looking out a window, wearing soiled hospital gowns, waiting for death. That image really doesn’t happen any more. With modern safety and care laws most people get fair and loving elder care. Of course, just like the rest of your life, money DOES help. No one likes to think about the very end of their lives. Their bodies have given up on them. Maybe their mind isn’t there any more. Disease or illness have left them a faint shadow of what they use to be. Wow, even I’M bumming myself out over here! But nursing homes don’t have to be like that. You are still (somewhat) in control of your life and can decide to make the golden years of your life fun or not. I will choose fun. That is if i’m not completely senile……which might be fun as well. There’s no reason that the last stage of your life has to suck. So I asked you guys what YOU would do in with the last part of your life with the hashtag #WhenImLivingInANursingHome.
