As children we were told to stay away from people we didn’t know. Since the 60’s we’ve all hear the phrase “Stranger Danger”. We shouldn’t talk to strangers, we shouldn’t take candy from a stranger, and we definitely shouldn’t get into a stranger’s car. But all that changed about 10 years ago with the advent of Uber. A ride sharing company that uses regular people using their own cars to drive other people around. That company was a hit and today has 110 million users world wide. So now a days we have an app to have strangers come pick us up. It really flies in the face of the old “Stranger Danger” mentality doesn’t it. So how do we keep ourselves safe when in a strangers car? It’s not like if they were going to attack us the threat of a 1 star review will stop them. It made me think back to those old personal safety videos that I saw as a kid. They said that one of the best ways to prevent a mugger or attacker from picking you as a victim is to make yourself look crazy. That way you’ll be much more of a pain to kidnap and they’ll just move on to the next person. So how can we use this streetwise tidbit while using an Uber? Simple, creep out your Uber driver from the start. It really has 2 benefits. It keeps you safe from any harm that they might do to you and also they’ll want you out of their car as soon as possible so you’ll get to your destination that much quicker! So what are some examples of things you can do to creep them out? That’s what I asked twitter this week with the hashtag #CreepOutYourUberDriverBy. So check out the top list below and don’t forget to join me every single Tuesday at 11 am EDT for the next exciting episode of “Hashtag, You’re It”
