#HopeMyNursingHomeHas via Hashtag, You’re It!: @BrandNewMcMann The Top Picks

So I did a little research. The average age of someone entering a nursing home is 79 years old. Right now the average life expectancy in the U.S. is 78.6 years old. Because of advances in medical technology and healthier living the life expectancy keeps rising. So it’s more than likely (if we don’t kill off the world) that we will end up one day in a nursing home ourselves. Most people don’t like to think about that. They want to picture themselves as sitting in a rocking chair on the porch of their families home being taken care of by loved ones until they peacefully drift off in their sleep. Buuuuuut let’s be real. With the boomer generation dying off Gen X, Gen Y, and Millennials are already burdened with so much debt that they have VERY little in the way of retirement savings. There’s no way that we will be able to sponge off our relatives like that. So nursing homes it is. If we live that long it’s inevitable. So let’s take a minute to actually give the golden years of our lives some realistic thought. What kind of nursing home do you want? What kind of amenities are you looking for? What kind of padded toilet seat goes best with those hospital gowns that don’t close up in the back? So that’s what I asked Twitter this week with the hashtag HopeMyNursingHomeHas.
