#WhenTheInternetGoesDown via Hashtag, You’re It!: @BrandNewMcMann The Top Picks

When writing these introductions to my hashtag games I try to do a little research into the topic at hand. This week’s game was #WhenTheInternetGoesDown so I jumped onto my computer and quick as a blink was on the Wikipedia site for “Internet”. Let me just tell you……that is a long ass web page filled with lots of techno jargon that after just a few minutes of reading my eyes crossed, I got a headache, and stopped even trying to follow. So let me just give you the Cliffnotes version, or at least what very little information that I was able to understand from Wiki. What we know of today as modern computers have been around since the late 1930’s, early 1940’s but it wasn’t until the early 1960’s that the Defense Department of the United States wanted those computers to be able to talk to each other. So the internet was born. Initially the internet was used exclusively in the academic community but as the sales of commercial and recreational computers skyrocketed in the early 80’s so skyrocketed the use of the internet. Flash forward 30 years and here we are in a global pandemic where we’re all stuck at home. No school means kids are learning online. Can’t go outside so we do nothing but stream TV and movies. It’s dangerous to go to stores so we order everything online. All banking is done online. Air travel is done online. International commerce. National defense. Hell, even dating. We live in a world we our entire existence in done online. So what happens if it all goes away? If we go from Online, to Offline? That’s why this week’s “Hashtag, You’re It” was #WhenTheInternetGoesDown. So check out the top list below and don’t forget to join every Tuesday at 11 am EDT. for the next exciting episode of “Hashtag, you’re It”
