#BadNamesForBondMovies via Hashtag, You’re It!: @BrandNewMcMann The Top Picks

Ian Fleming wrote the very first James Bond novel way back in 1953. Since that time there have been Bond novels, comics, TV shows, video games, radio, and of course movies. With the (pushed back) release of the newest Bond film “No Time To Die” there have been 26 different movies featuring the suave MI6 secret agent James Bond. Well, 25 because they made “Thunderball” 2 times. These movies are the 6th highest grossing film series to date raking in over $7.04 billion. Not bad for a film series that has been around for 59 years huh. There has always been a special place in my heart for the Bond movies. The action sequences, the gadgets, the fancy clothes, the gambling, the exotic locations, the camp, and most importantly the puns. From the character names like Xenia Onatopp, Pussy Galore, Plenty O’Toole, and Dr. Holly Goodhead. To the lines after kills like after he shot someone with a harpoon gun “I think he got the point”, after killing someone on the model of Napoleon’s defeat “He met his Waterloo”, after trapping the henchman’s prosthetic arm in a window and pushing him out the window “Just being disarming, Darling”. To just the most blatant lines of all time “I think he’s attempting reentry sir” to “Remind her, then pump her for information”, to “I thought Christmas only came once a year”. But there is just one that stands out to me as the oddest, clunkiest pun of them all. And this one is even the title of the movies. It’s “Octopussy”. I just really don’t know what Ian Fleming was thinking when he came up with that one! I did a little digging and it’s from his published work “Octopussy And The Living Daylights”. (sounds like a singing group from the 70’s) Octopussy……. it’s just weird isn’t it. This got me thinking about other bond movie titles that could be even worse than that. “Thunderballs”, “The Man With The Golden Gum”, “License To Till”, “YOLO”? That’s why for this week’s “Hashtag, You’re It” I asked Twitter for some examples of #BadNamesForBondMovies.
