#WhenMarioFinallyRetires via “Hashtag, You’re It”!: The Top Picks By @BrandNewMcMann

Mario has been a part of our lives since 1981. First appearing in the video game “Donkey Kong”, although at the time he was just known as Jump Man, Mario has been saving the Mushroom Kingdom ever since. A couple of fun facts about Mario for you. 1. His last name is Mario so yes, his full name is Mario Mario. 2. His Creator Shigeru Miyamoto, originally wanted him to be Popeye. Yup, it was supposed to be a Popeye game but he couldn’t get the licensing rights. 3. He’s named after Nintendo’s landlord. Nintendo U.S.A.’s warehouse landlord one day came to demand back rent from the company so the programmers named the character after him. So Mario Segale will go down in history as the inspiration for the name Mario. All the fun facts aside Miyamoto has said that Mario’s age is between 24 – 25. So since his first appearance was in 1981 and if he was 24 at the time does some quick math in my head huh…..Mario isapperently is 65 years old! Wow, that’s retirement age. Mario could very easily leave the Mushroom Kingdom behind and enjoy his very well earned retirement. But what does that look like? How does a plumber, originally from Brooklyn, who’s spend most of his life killing Goombas and Koopas spend his golden years? After constantly saving Princess Peach from the clutches of Bower what do you do in your free time? This was the question to put forth to Twitter with the hashtag #WhenMarioFinallyRetires.
